What is an apostille?

An apostille is a certification attached to a public document that authenticates its origin and legitimacy for use in foreign countries. It is the international standard established by the Hague Convention of 1961 — a treaty signed by 120+ countries that simplifies cross-border document authentication.

Without an apostille, documents issued in one country may not be accepted as legally valid in another. With an apostille, they are automatically recognised in all Hague Convention member countries without further legalisation.

When do you need an apostille for US LLC documents?

  • Opening a bank account abroad using your US LLC certificate
  • Registering a branch or subsidiary in another country
  • Applying for visas or residency using your business documents
  • Entering into contracts with foreign government entities
  • Proving business legitimacy for foreign regulatory purposes
  • Registering intellectual property internationally

Which US documents can be apostilled?

  • Articles of Organization (LLC formation certificate)
  • Certificate of Good Standing
  • EIN Confirmation Letter (IRS CP 575 or 147C)
  • LLC Operating Agreement (notarised copy)
  • Powers of Attorney
  • Other notarised business documents

Not all documents are directly apostillable — some require notarisation first. HynoGo handles the entire process including pre-apostille notarisation where required.

How the apostille process works

The apostille is issued by the designated state authority (usually the Secretary of State) for the state where the document originates. For a Wyoming LLC, the apostille is issued by the Wyoming Secretary of State. For a Delaware LLC, by the Delaware Secretary of State.

HynoGo manages the full apostille process: document collection, submission to the Secretary of State, and delivery of the apostilled document to you by courier or digital copy.

How long does it take?

Standard processing: 5–10 business days. Expedited processing: 2–5 business days (additional fee applies). HynoGo will advise on the fastest available option based on your state and urgency.
